Hole In One: More From Just Off The Green and Scoring.

When practising the way you want to hit your chips from just off the green, the best place is a green on the golf course.
This will be better even than the green on your practice fairway should you be lucky enough to have one.
Over time you can practice on different greens on your course and get to know how the ball runs from different areas just off the putting surface on every one of them.
Right, left, up hill, down hill, etc.

This will take time but you will get a really good working knowledge of the greens on your course.
Your confidence will be huge and your handicap will show the results of your efforts.
Don’t forget to keep a note book. You will never remember it all.

If you want to become a really good golfer, you will have to put in the hours of practice.
As already said before, practice has to be along the right lines.
The key is to be deliberate.
Slow your tempo.
Hit the ball deliberately, smoothly and easily, with a nice unhurried but firm swing

Hole In One: More on How To Score From Just Off The Green.

How important is your short game? In my opinion, it is the most important part of a round of golf.
It determines your score more than any other part of your game, and is, for me anyway, the most difficult and the most exacting.

Jack Nicklaus admits in one of his books that chipping was never easy for him.

He had to take himself in hand and devise a set of rules to go by when hitting these delicate shots from just off the green.

The first thing to do is visualize the flight of the ball, where you want it to land which is just on the edge of the green and then see it roll up to the hole.

You have to determine which club you should use to achieve the result you want.

You can only know how the ball will behave by finding a green and practising diligently.
Practice different swings, ball positions, clubs, and stances.

Write down your results and take your notes with you when you play your next round of golf.
You will soon remember the results and you will find that your guess work is reduced to a minimum.

Golf Swing Series: Flight or Pitch and Roll the Ball To The ahole.

Most of us can judge the roll of a ball better than a ball in flight.
So if this is the case, we should choose to pitch and roll the ball to the hole from close in to the green.
The further the ball from the green, the greater the loft is needed.
This means that from twenty five feet from the green, we will use an eight or nine iron.
Conversely, from four or five feet we sill use a five or six iron.
From two or three feet, try putting with a three iron. The grass ceases to be a factor and does not slow the ball as it does when using a putter. The shot is like a put from this distance.
The grip used can be orthodox, a putting grip or a cross handed grip (left hand below the right in right handed players).
