Grooved Golf Swing Series: How To Use Your Elbow While Putting.

How do you keep your putter head on line
and stop it deviating away from you or towards you?

Answer: You use your right elbow.

When you put, (right handers), make sure your right elbow
is tucked into our right side
and touching your body during the whole put.

You use the shoulders and big muscles when you put,
and not your wrists. Correct?

So, when you put,
your elbow stays in contact with your body at all times.

This means that the putter head stays along the correct line
during the whole put.
A bit like a compass allows you to draw a perfect circle.

If your elbow comes away from your side during the put,
you will move your putter head away from the line
and you will miss to the left of the hole.

Grooved Golf Swing Series: How To Be A Better Putter - Some Tips

If you have the shaft of your putter behind vertical,
you will hit the ball with more top spin and will get more roll.

However, you will not be consistent with distance
as the tendency is to top the ball.

If you have the shaft in front of vertical,
you will drive the ball into the ground slightly
and the result will be a slight skipping of the ball
and inconsistent roll and so distance.

So, have your putter shaft vertical.

Your stance has to be well balanced.

Side on or slightly or markedly open is fine. I like a more open stance.

You also must have your head directly over the ball.

Once in this position, your head must be held absolutely still during the put.

Have your weight on your left foot (right handers) and more on your heel.

Greooved golf swing series: How To Hit Your Puts With A Square Putter Head

How do you hit our puts with a square putter head?

Answer: with your grip, your stroke and the manner in which you
use your hands while making the stroke.

So, taking these features of the put in order, let us look at the
grip.
There is no right way to hold your putter.

The way for you is that grip that allows you to hit the ball with a square putter head.
Have the palm of your right hand and the back of your left hand facing the line of the put.
Another way is too hold your putter as you do any iron with a straight left arm etc.

Then there is the reverse grip which is a good accurate method.
You have to get used to it however, as the tendency is to hit your ball too hard.

Use your right hand to stroke your ball along the line of the put.

Grooved golf swing series: What About Your Hands When You Put

What about your hands when you put?
How do they work?
Which one should be dominant during a put?

This question does not have a definite answer.

If you try putting with your left hand only, you will almost certainly be
surprised by how many puts you hole in this manner.

Now try with your right hand only.
Is it as good as your left or better?

This will probably give you a clue about which hand to concentrate
on.
Use this hand to hit or push to the hole and the other as a
guide only.
An embellishment is the use of the right index finger.

It is hooked round the shaft like a trigger.

Be conscious of using some pressure from this finger
during the put and use it to direct the put and to
control your stroke force.

You will find you are developing a deal
of touch if your persist using your right index finger in this
manner.

Grooved golf swing series. How To Develop A Fluid Putting Stroke

Your stroke must control the path of the putter as well as its face
alignment when it hits the ball and continues on past the ball.

The putter head must follow through to maintain acceleration through
the ball and continue along the chosen path.

The putter must be allowed to swing naturally using its own weight.

If you have all these aspect in your put, you are well on the way
to developing a fluid putting stroke.

The aspect of your putting that has huge influence on all of the
above is the strength of your putting grip.

So, you will have to experiment with different grip strengths to
determine what is comfortable for you and allows you to do all of
the above.
Everyone is different and it is impossible to tell you
more than this.
As long as you are aware of the goals, it will not
be difficult to work towards your perfect grip strength.
